The latest video in our new collaborative series – which sees GFP teaming up with Brighton’s Small Pond for a series of special live sessions – finds the gnarly math-rock band Invalids in far more quiet and contemplative mood than we’re used to.
Performing the brilliant ‘Satellite’, the band still find plenty of space for finger-tapping excursions and rhythmic shifts, but the whole thing is held together throughout by the respect they show for their surroundings, spotlighting the intricacy and complexity of the track’s finer parts.
Check-out the session below right now; here’s what the band themselves had to say about the song and their performance:
“Our session at the toy museum was a pretty monumental event for us because we finally got the chance to perform Satellite with Ellie, the original guest vocalist on the recording from 2014. For years after we started performing live, this has always been bar none the most requested song in our repertoire, and we would always gently dismiss it with the notion that we wouldn’t want to do it without her.
After meeting for the first time hours before, we were able to jam through it for an hour or two unplugged in the van. It was amazing how quickly it came together and, despite a few hiccups, how easily we all meshed together. We are glad to have it captured so beautifully on video.”
