Overtly pretty and compelling in its simplicity, could quite as easily describe Kathryn Joseph, the artist, as much as it does her new video. To touch briefly on the former before moving on to the latter, Kathryn is often as hailed as ‘Scotland’s best kept secret’, a singer with the kind of voice that breaks a day straight down the middle. Initially releasing her breathtaking LP online last year, ‘Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled‘ will now be given the full vinyl treatment it deserves, thanks to Hits The Fan Records, the label that helped to launch Frightened Rabbit’s recording career, amongst others.
Which brings us to ‘The Bird‘ and it’s new accompanying video which precedes the album’s full release on January 24th. Filmed in a pillbox style, the basic nature of the visuals acts as the lightweight complement to Joseph’s most bewitching of adornments. Through just voice and piano she casts a magnetising spell that feels both unmatched and beautifully unique. Disabling in its quiet power, evocative in its delivery; a sudden burst of light across the greyest of days.
