Hundred Waters

A tender stand-out from the beautifully immersive new Communicating LP, Hundred Waters today unveil the suitably stunning new video to ‘Firelight‘. Already a mesmerising four-and-a-half minutes, the new video adds even greater gravitas to the experience, detailing the song with flashes of colour and a sense of deep journey and exploration, reigniting if not reinventing a format that has come to be somewhat overlooked over the past decade or so.

“When I was asked to create a video for Firelight I was immediately excited about creating something magical and ethereal, but it was also a little intimidating being given such a beautiful song to create a visual companion for,” says the video’s Director, James R. Eads. “The initial idea was to have Nicole, Zach, and Trey in the video summoning the light and essentially raising the sun. But after we discussed what the heart of the song was really about, it seemed that the light itself was meant to lead us through the song. I started the project by creating a rough storyboard that mapped out the journey the light would take through the piece.”

Using a program called Tilt Brush, which allows 3D ‘sculpting’ from form, colour, and alight, Eads has crafted something truly inspired and poignant, and an enchanting counterpart to the LA trio’s exquisite song. “I spent about a month sculpting the world that the light lived in, and then created different versions of the forest based on the time of day and the progression of the song,” Eads continues. “Once the “set” was completed, I then walked through it filming in VR to generate video content. From storyboarding to final edits the video took about two months to create. This was truly a dream project to work on and I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting first in-depth exploration into the world of virtual reality.”

Unveiled ahead of the band’s European tour which begins next week (see full list of dates below), we’re very pleased to present Eads work today – and you can check out it out below right now.
