“A Long Time Running”

“It is an album about the aftermath of breast cancer. It is about the body; giving birth, becoming a mother, then becoming a patient – becoming a physical body that is defined by medicine, controlled and intervened, unknown and simultaneously more feeling than ever. It’s a pop record about loss, death, grief and hope.”
Further proof, if ever it were needed, of the importance of music, both created and consumed, the new record from Astrid Swan is a strikingly personal piece of work armed with the ability to make an impact on the listener, wherever they might be coming from, and the above words, written by Astrid herself, convey the message far more succinctly than we ever could.
Case in point: new track “A Long Time Running“, taken from the forthcoming new album out March 3rd, is a dense, poignant, but ultimately beautiful piece of work. Reminiscent of Cat Power at her most knee-tremblingly sincere, the track is a stunning weave of tender vocals and scorched instrumentation, the impact of such exemplified further by a creepily compelling new video which we’re very pleased to unveil today.
Alongside the release of her new album, Astrid will also be a keynote speaker at Tallinn Music Week in March, where she’ll discuss her illness and the effects on creativity, gender and more. Suffice to say that ‘From The Bed & Beyond‘ looks set to be one of 2017’s most immersive and captivating documents, and one that you should undoubtedly make a time and space for, whether the conversation directly affects you or not. Begin by finding a quiet space and watching the new video, which is streaming below from today.
