While nothing marks the passing of time like music has a habit of doing, there’s also nothing that confuses time in quite the same way. Last week marked the first anniversary of Advance Base’s beautiful Animal Companionship LP and yet it already feels like we’ve walked for miles in those songs, that they’ve somehow been a part of our journey for much longer than the past twelve months.
Consisting of ten songs based around, you guessed it, the companionship of animals, its a remarkable collection of small country-pop songs, so vivid in its storytelling, and so gently enthralling, that to spend any time with it is to inhabit the characters and places as if they were your own.
To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the album, AB’s Owen Ashworth today unveils a brand new video for one of the record’s crushing high-points, ‘Rabbits’. Made in beautiful, painstaking detail by Tom Denney – a UK-based 2D animator & storyboard artist – the video is an equally compelling companion piece to the song, leaning upon that underlying sense of sadness to produce something both powerful and evocative.
Check out the video below right now, and be sure to listen to the full album today, whether new to it or not. You can also pick up physical copies of the LP via the Run For Cover store here.
Gold Flake Paint is now a long-form, physical music journal.
