“Hawk”

While yesterday’s return from Japandroids might have set young hearts firing, the return of another Vancouver collective is gaining a very tangible sense of momentum, with the Polaris-nominated, SOCAN-prize-winning, Brasstroanut unveiling another new cut from their third full-length record today; a self-titled effort which arrives at the end of February via Tin Angel Records.
Premiering below, new track “Hawk” is a colourful, experimental jam that twists-and-turns through its four-minutes in brilliantly soulful style. Led by a beautifully honeyed lead vocal, the track begins steadily and unhurried before the whole thing begins to unravel somewhat with a scattering of percussion and a jazzy underlay that slowly take over, pushing the track through a more erratic second-half, full of nuanced, kaleidoscopic intrigue that prickles the senses.
There’s still a little while to wait for the full LP, but “Brasstronaut” is already shaping up to be one of 2017’s most confounding full-lengths. Keep a close eye on this one. Stream “Hawk” below.
‘Brasstonaut’ is released on February 28th, via Tin Angel Records
