Grand Cousin | Oxygen

by LJ Kessels

The music video directed by the duo Jack and Sid – Jack Coyne and Sidney Schleiff – fits nicely with the humorous on-stage banter and chemistry the New York-based Grand Cousin are known for. The old man in the video played by Ron Crawford
is reminiscent of the montage in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ where Royal – Gene Hackman – is running around a swimming pool with his grandsons.

Lead singer Henry Hall (son of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall, fact fans) brings ethereal vocals with an element of playfulness to the songs. His voice is one that easily could fit in the grand bombastic melancholy of a Radiohead or Muse, but it retains a joy to it that takes out the sting of dread.

Henry met Robby Caplan (bass) and Evan Low (drums) at Wesleyan University, where they formed the band just a week into their freshman year. They already released two singles, Camera and Let Me Know in 2013 and their debut EP, Oxygen, is out this week. Check out the track below.
