Siv Jakobsen

Bullet (Martin Hviid remix)

[GFP Premiere]

by tom johnson

Remixes tend to do one of two things; ramping things up to bring new texture and temperament to slower songs, or stretching busier songs out to bring a new found sense of quietude. This new Martin Hviid remix of Siv Jakobsen, however, does neither of these things. It certainly frames ‘Bullet‘ within a new frame but it keeps the subtle, delicate shape of its former inclination and slightly transforms it. That intricate grace was what made the original take such a beautiful undertaking and Hviid never tries to move away from it, instead he tenderly adds new brushes of ambient noise and layers the vocal to give it a powerful new sense of assertiveness.

Released ahead of Siv Jakobsen’s forthcoming set of UK dates, and European tour with Ciran Lavery, the new remix acts as a wonderful reminder of the Norwegian’s poignant sense of elegance; graceful, heartening stories brought to life by a songwriter with the most balletic of styles.
