A former touring member of The Front Bottoms, Ciaran O’Donnell today unveils the fruits of his own labour, with the release of “Patagonia“, a brand new track from his Rat Kid Cool project, plucked from his forthcoming new album ‘Year Of The Rat’, which is due for release later this Spring via the ever-wonderful Take This To Heart label, who continue to act as a vessel for some of the most endearing and interesting guitar music around.
Underlined by little hints of summery, wistful guitar-pop, the track also contains an edge that lends it something of an outsider feel, little strands of unease and listlessness that are masked, somewhat, by the brighter glow of its exterior. And boy, oh, boy that exterior. Slapdash percussion, playful excursions, occasional bursts of trumpet, and all manner of tics and tricks, the track unrolls in many number of ways, bu always finds its way back with a woozy, invigorating decorum; a warmly beating heart at its centre that leads to the whole thing feeling like that best friend you wish you spent a helluva lot more time with.
A wonderful appetite-whetter for whatever the rest of the project might bring, “Patagonia” is the sound of a bold and brilliant new voice – and you can leap in to its colourful world below right now.
