Based on France’s northern coast, in St. Malo, La Route Du Rock has always stood out from the crowd as one of Europe’s most eye-catching and alluring festivals. Situated in the historic Brittany town, beautiful beach and all, the festival’s line-up has always been one of the strongest around, a small but perfectly curated roster that has boasted the likes of Bjork, Phoenix, Nils Frahm, PJ Harvey, Portishead, and so many more over the years.
Next week, the festival returns once more, for a four-night stretch of shows showcasing some of the brightest names from the indie-rock world. GFP is particularly excited to attend this year’s festival as it kicks off with a special Wednesday night showcase with two of our three front-cover stars performing, in Big Thief and Sharon Van Etten, who are joined by the inimitable Anna St Louis for a decidedly atmospheric opening party.
The following three days continue in equally alluring fashion, with Thursday especially bursting at the seams with a run of Black Midi, Fontaines D.C, and Idles, with a finale flourish of Jon Hopkins, the legendary Stereolab, and Tame Impala. Elsewhere, there’s a Friday night disco on offer with 2ManyDJs followed by Hot Chip, before Saturday rounds thing off with the magical Hand Habits, the spiky Pottery, the mesmerising Deerhunter, before Metronomy close the whole weekend with their lovable indie-pop melodrama.
