Tigercats | Sleeping In The Backseat
by tom johnson
While many of us slope in to the new year, dizzied and dull-eyed in the wake of being thrown back in to habitual spin of things, there are others who do things somewhat differently. Case in point, the wonderful Fortuna Pop! Hot on the heels of last weeks spree of live shows for their Winter Sprinter event, the label will also release what may well to be one of 2015’s most opulent displays of indie-pop in the form of ‘Mysteries‘ the second full-length offering from the wonderful Tigercats.
First taster of said-record arrives today, and ‘Sleeping In The Backseat‘ is as invigorating and poignant as we might have hoped for/expected. Led, vocally, by keyboardist Laura Kovic, the track was Duncan Barrett’s attempt at writing a driving song – despite not having a license (hence the backseat, I guess). Regardless, the track is eminently rewarding within this role, the repetitive nature of the instrumentation and vocal flourishes rolling out like the most expansive of open roads. Roads that take on far greater magnitude when they’re pitched against the minimal, meticulous details that give the track it’s true heart.
Rousing but romantic, resolute but quietly reticent, it’s a wonderful first-step in the bands new journey.
All of that and we didn’t even mention the Springsteen-esque brass serenade yet… We’ll leave that part to speak for itself. Listen to ‘Sleeping In The Backseat‘, exclusively, below.
Tigercats release ‘Mysteries‘ on February 2nd, via Fortuna Pop!
