Lost Film | OK, Lost

[GFP premiere]

by tom johnson

There’s something endearingly sincere about that track title, ‘OK, Lost‘; two words that set you up for the ride before you’ve even begun. Hinting at either adventure or an acceptance of misadventure, it’s a vague title that could go find you falling on either side of the precipice – are you ok being lost? Or maybe its more of an acknowledgement that yes, we’re lost, but, you know what, that’s OK.

The answer, it turns out, is probably a little bit of both.

Lifted from the first full length that Jimmy Hewitt has crafted in his decade on the scene, ‘OK, Lost‘ is a discretely magical, often powerful, statement of intent ahead of said records full release next month. Now working under the name Lost Film, Hewitt treads similar ground to his previous Orca Orca but the difference here is in the real world vibrancy of it all; the Imago LP was recorded with a live band across one weekend. And it shows. This is heartening moment thrust in to the blinding light of day; all the rush and clamour, sweat and soul left in, no matter how rugged it might sound.

Led as brazenly as always by his signature guitar tones, ‘OK, Lost‘ is a swirling gem of a pop song, a moment of restraint that explodes in to a sublimely affecting chorus of group vocals and charming hooks. Carried with an effortless balance, the track rushes through its three minutes or so, rising and falling through a variety of soundscapes but always, no matter what, carrying on; two eyes fixed firmly forwards, face braced to the rush of the wind, sometimes lost but almost always OK.

OK and so much more. Check it out below.

Imago LP is released on August 21st, via The Native Sound
