Lisa Alma | Low
[GFP premiere]

I’m all for spontaneity but there’s also something refreshing about a song that immediately sets out its stall from the first moment. ‘Low’ is the brand new track from Copenhagen’s Lisa Alma and within a handful of seconds of that gorgeously evocative intro you know where you stand. Which isn’t to say that there’s anything safe about Low, in fact even though you know where you stand, you’ll struggle to see the physical ground beneath your feet such is the way this dreamy nature of it all.
Gathered from her forthcoming new album, which is released later this month, ‘Low’ is a gorgeously hushed journey through minimal soundscapes;; all brooding, lingering eyes and densely woven musical patterns. It’s Alma’s voice that hits the hardest, however. At times distant, in other moments beautifully imposing, it’s a stunning protagonist, wrapping itself around the accompanying keys and beats in a dance that feels endlessly intriguing and poignant.
Shaped by all the mystery and magic of the Scandinavian landscapes that no doubt imparted their enchantment on it, ‘Low’ is a subtly moving next step from an album which is shaping up to be one of the years most assured performances. Check it out below.
New album ‘Sweater‘ is released on April 21st, limited to 300 copies.
