Dumbo Gets Mad is an Italian duo based in Los Angeles, where they draw inspiration from that much-neglected offshoot of stock music written by their countrymen in the 1970’s. The library music of yore once lent a certain élan to supermarket prowls, elevator rides and racy midnight movies embellished with a dose of tinkling pianos, shuffling funk drums and surprising hiccups of music concrète or psychedelia. The spirit of this experimental era remains alive and well today in DGM’s new single, ‘Andromedian Girl‘, which is premiering below.
Here is a song that coils like pink smoke in and out of a rapturous procession of descending synth keys, crisp drums, dulcet vocals and a gorgeous soulful bass line that teases us for the length of a chorus before hiding coyly throughout the second verse. Those counting New Zealander whiz kid Connan Mockasin among their favorites will relish this act’s full-length album, Thank You Neil which is set for release on December 4th and bears its title in proud homage to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
