Bubbling away in the undercurrent of the UK DIY scene for the past year or so, Brighton’s Porridge Radio are set to take a decisive leap forward over the next few weeks, with a full tour supporting the ever-brilliant Evans The Death (full set of dates below) and the release of their superbly-titled new album ‘Rice, Pasta and Other Fillers‘.
Released via indie-champion label Memorials Of Distinction, the new album feels like a huge leap forward for the band; formerly the solo-project of Dana Margolin but now fleshed-out to a fully-functioning five-piece. Proof is in the pudding, so they say, and lead track ‘Eugh’, which is premiering below from right now, exemplifies the band’s progression in wonderfully affecting form. Described as a cross between “Neil Young, Cat Power and Blink 182” the new album comes to a close via the soft swell of ‘Eugh’ – an atmospheric, indignant swarm of tempered instrumentation and lyrical vexations that are scattered and then stamped all over the track as it rises towards it’s brilliantly gnarly peak.
Genuinely impressive and a marked step-up from all that’s preceded it, the new track is a perfect kick-start to the band’s next chapter – and you can stream it right here:
