It’s almost five years since we first introduced Ryan Vail’s hypnotic electronic work on these pages, and the Belfast producer has continued to grow from strength to strength in that time, producing a small body of work that remains as interesting as it is invigorating. Billed as “a call for art, soul and self-belief during difficult times”, Vail has now announced that his brand new album, ‘Distorted Shadows’, will be released via the Quiet Arch label later this Spring, and we’re very pleased to offer the first glimpse inside his new work today, with the sharing of its glowing first track ‘As It Tears’.
More euphoric than the work that first caught our ears, the new track makes for a quietly euphoric return, a bold display of darkened pop writing, vibrant and vivacious, that adds new tones and textures to his expansive body of genres and influences. Deeply atmospheric, both in the initial glowing first-half and the slow-build of the track’s final couple of minutes, the new track instantly grabs; the final flourish, especially, crafting something beautifully captivating; a rush of hushed hedonism and melodrama played out in a city’s darkened undercurrent.
The new album gets a full release on April 20th – you can stream ‘As It Tears’ below right now.
