“Baby, It’s Time”
words by tom johnson
In just a couple of weeks time, the brilliant Psychic Markers release their new and third full-length effort, in the form of a self-titled record on the Bella Union label. The album was informed chiefly by a near-death experience for the band’s Steven Dove, which found him being sucked into an active sandstorm during a US road trip. “These things impact you,” he says in the album’s foreword. “I got thinking about human nature, our proneness to mistakes, imperfection and the implications of reactionary decision making.”
Ahead of the release, we’re very pleased to share another glimpse of the album today, with the alluring ‘Baby, It’s Time‘ which is delivered with a suitable mesmerising accompanying video. Weird and warped, but with a graceful presence that often feels otherworldly, the track is a perfect album-closer, illuminated by Alannah Ashworth’s hazy vocal.
“This is the oldest of the tracks and was initially going to go on Hardly Strangers but somehow it didn’t seem to fit,” the band say of the new track. “We’re album guys. Structurally and conceptually it has to work in a holistic manner. We spruced it up a bit for this one. Alannah wrote the words and she explained how it represents the time for a change; ‘Baby, it’s time to let go’. It had to be an album closer and a pretty beautiful one at that.”
The full album is released on May 29th. Grab a pre-order right here, and check out ‘Baby, It’s Time’ below right now.
