We Make Do

Having toiled and toyed over the past couple of years, through various singles and EPs, Glasgow-based songwriter Martha Ffion today announces her full debut album alongside a stream of brand new track ‘We Make Do’ – and the ten-track Sunday Best LP is set for release in early 2018 via the Turnstile label (Cate Le Bon, Perfume Genius).
Laced with that subtle but slightly eerie charm, as if crafted from a distinct time and place which is never immediately obvious, ‘We Make Do’ is a softly captivating two-and-a-half minutes, the swaying pop style she’s perfected and built upon with each release feeling as radiant and beautifully-detailed here as ever before.
Introduced by a dainty piano line, the track builds gently towards its more dynamic high-points, the lyrics leaping out with crisp, alluring clarity. “There’s no shame in facing every day with an overwhelming sense of making do,” Ffion sings as a playful whistle creeps, the impishness of the act juxtaposed by the rippling undercurrent of domestic disturbance that’s always just out of eye-sight.
A perfectly-balanced start-point for the new chapter, you can stream the new track below right now. The full record will follow in early 2018 and there are a handful of tour dates already announced – check them out at the bottom of the page.
