“Interstate Vision”

I first heard “Interstate Vision” on the opening night of Lomelda’s run of shows with Pinegrove earlier this year; and it stuck. Instantly. Nothing else but curiosity. Curiosity borne of words that hovered in the back of my head, images that melded themselves in the song so detailed and vivid, like they’d been there all along, already a tangible thing, just waiting to be unlocked. I heard it handful more times that week, in different spaces, under different lights, and it only ever resonated more. I wanted to say it’s the quintessential Lomelda track but it’s more than that. Still carrying that same sense of longing that made both Forever and 4E* such lasting, vital pieces of work, it also feels like moving forward; a new chapter for Hannah Read’s project, a sharpening of all that came before.

Said track now acts as the introduction to Lomelda’s brand new album – their first for the Double Double Whammy label – which will be released later this year, and it rides that same feather-breadth of sadness and stark beauty, never settling for one or the other but instead weaving the two together like like a stretch of time shortened in to a one flash of emotion that hits like a hammer. “Still I sit with you in parking lots, acting like I’m not falling for it,” Read utters, the hum of the band dimmed for a second, that spirited voice holding everything else in place, like a single gulp of breath could change everything in a fraction of a moment. And so it lingers, and pleads, ending on the line “I saw a meteor burn through the sky”, unrelated and unadorned, a sudden appendage uttered in to the ether in the hope that saying anything is better than saying nothing at all.

And still we sit. And we sit.

THX is released on 9th September, via Double Double Whammy
