We were big champions of Kevin Krauter’s ‘Changes‘ EP, released at the end of 2016 and premiered on these very pages. Subtle and swirling, it remains a beautiful collection of dream guitar-pop songs, the kind of record that gently transports yourself somewhere else without you barely noticing. Wonderful news, then, that Krauter today announces his full debut album, Toss Up, which will be released on June 15th, as well as the news that he has joined Bayonet Records for the release, home to the likes of Beach Fossils, Lionlimb, and, previously, Frankie Cosmos.
Kick-starting the new chapter, Krauter is also sharing the record’s first track, ‘Rollerskate‘, which is streaming below as of right now. Instantly more fleshed-out than his work on ‘Changes’, the new track is a no-less impressive four-minutes, the subdued sway that was so effortlessly framed on his past-work, still finding a way to compel, even through the more robust nature of the composition, which brings in drums, piano, and an overall more substantial feel.
It’s Krauter’s way with a melody that has always stood-out, and, in that respect, ‘Rollerskate’ thrives; the little hooks that creep in amid the flowing nature of the track bringing about little moments of reflection and poignancy, even as the bright exterior does its best to shade such things. A lovely first offering; you can stream the new track below right now:
