While the new video for the title-track from Julien Baker’s forthcoming ‘Turn Out The Lights’ LP finds Baker exploring the very natural outside world, the song itself still finds her buried within the walls and pressure of the dark indoors, the song swelling, or perhaps unraveling, towards a fiery but solitude-filled crescendo of immense emotional power: “…But when I turn out the lights there’s no one left between myself and me,” Baker sings, quietly, at first, and then with every ounce of breath she can muster from such a position.
As poignant as we’ve come to expect, with a hammer-blow of an ending that resonates in the ether long after that voice has disappeared in to the dark, the beautiful new track is taken from the much-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s Sprained Ankle, and her first full release on her lofty new home at Matador Records. The whole thing gets a full release at the end of the month, on October 27th, and the title-track offers a further glimpse in to the awaiting majesty.
Check out the video below right now. Julien tours Europe from early November; you can scroll a little further down to find the full list of dates.
