Taken from the her album Cage Tropical, which is released later this Summer via Slumberland Records/Grey Market, and unveiled via a striking set of visuals created by Darby Cicci (of The Antlers fame), “Trouble” finds Frankie Rose in magnetic form, the four-and-a-half minutes tumbling past in a hypnotic swirl of colour and texture.
“Trouble came out of the simple realization that you can’t outrun yourself or your problems. Wherever you go they will follow you unless you address them,” Rose says of the new track, and there’s certainly a strong sense of the chased here, the motorik propulsion of the underlying beats, filling the track with a contagious energy that feels wildly consuming. What juxtaposes the whole thing though, keeping it in the light, so to speak, or at least lending the track a glow that still invites, is Rose’s beautifully considered voice that acts as the bridge between the world we, the listener inhabits and the somewhat alien landscapes crafted by the music itself.
In short: “Trouble” is a majestic start-point. Check it out below right now; the full record arrives on August 11th.
