New Music:

Cool Sounds

“Around and Down”

words by tom johnson

Though they only released the brilliant Cactus Country LP last year, Cool Sounds are already back with new music, a brand new single released this week acting as a pre-cursor to another full-length effort which we’re likely to hear before the year is out – once again via Osborne Again, Hotel Motel and Meritorio Records.

As appetite-whetters go, ‘Around and Down’ is wonderfully quenching, the track offering further proof of their guitar-pop brilliance as the three-and-a-half minutes drif by in a haze of inspired riffs and shimmering vocals that hide their own sense of melancholy.

The first half of the track is tight and stirring, little glimpses of summer from a rain-soaked city, before its wonderful coda takes over, a repeated refrain filling the surrounding space, the sound of a band letting go and giving into the blissful release of it all.

Released as a stand-alone single on June 19th, the single also pre-dates a short run of Australian live shows. You can check the details of those below, and listen to ‘Around and Down’ right here:

22/6 – Yah Yah’s, Melbourne w/ Emma Shields and Girl Boss
