All proceeds from Sand Dunes go to Australian Bushfires Charity WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.)
Bonniesongs – the musical project of Bonnie Stewart – gently lit up 2019 with her folky and spirited debut album Energetic Mind, a collection of songs that navigated that precarious balance-beam between stylish and sentimental. Today, the Irish-born, Australian-based songwriter announces a new set of dates alongside the sharing of a brand new song, ‘Sand Dunes‘. All of the proceeds from the song will be donated to WIRES – a charity whose mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife.
“Sand Dunes was inspired by a trip I took part in with large improvising ensemble The Splinter Orchestra,” Stewart explains. “We were exploring and recording in the vast natural landscape of Mungo National Park. Mungo is one of the most powerfully resonant environmental and cultural sites in Australia. I found that connecting with the land as well as the sharing of this connection with like-minded artists to be a significant experience in my life.”
Tender and sparse throughout, the new song glides through five-minutes of gently plucked guitars, subtle strings, and Stewart’s effortless, captivating voice which feels more earthy here than ever before as if pulled from the breeze, dug up from the dunes.
“It is, in part, a love song for that place and time” Stewart goes on to say. “In response to the recent bushfire devastation, I would like to release this song in honour of Australia’s natural landscape and wildlife”.
