Like some delectable secret kept only between friends, Glasgow’s Babe have performed somewhat frequently in the two-and-a-half years since the release of their previous full-length effort, Volery Flighty, release back in March 2014 via Moshi Moshi, and included in GFP’s end-of-year list that same year. So much so, in fact, that a number of the tracks that appear on their new full-length, released early in 2017, are already established as firm favourites and staples of their wonderful live showing.
Thankfully, for us and for them, there’s still a great deal of joy and suspense in finding out how such things compare to their recorded counterpart, and if new track “Ayo” is anything to go by, the band have got closer than ever before to replicating the measured, exquisite joy that their on-stage presence so brilliantly exudes. Led by frontman Gerard Black’s soulful falsetto, the track is gorgeously mellow alt-pop track, buoyed by some tantalising production by new drummer John Bailie Jnr (Bossy Love) who co-produced the record alongside Black, which adds soft synth lines and nuanced samples to that endearing aforementioned vocal.
The full “Kiss & Tell” LP is released early next year; stream the new track below right now.
