Three Leg Dog
by tom johnson
Following swiftly on the heels of previous single Microwave, Philadelphia quartet Mumblr take another impressive stride toward the release of their new album with this new video for Three Leg Dog; itself a refined blast of guitar-pop that further whets the appetite for the approaching full-length.
A deliberate swerve away from the punk/emo aesthetics that’s formed much of the band’s discography, ‘Three Leg Dog’ is a reflective burst of energy that feels uncharacteristically settled, drifting along on a sweet vocal refrain that gradually comes alive as the whole tempo swells in the latter half of the track.
Front-man Nick Morrison has already said that much of the record was based on recollection of dreams and that “the writing process was like trying to record what happened in your dream after you’ve woken up,” – and there’s certainly a sense of detached memory running right through the heart of the track.
Directed by Mumblr’s bassist, Sean Reilly, the accompanying video is a suitably vague undertaking and, ahead of the June 10th release of The Never Ending Get Down LP, you can check it out below right now.
