Video Premiere:

Lazy Day

Weird Cool

words by sammy maine

Lazy Day aren’t afraid to poke fun at themselves. Led by Tilly Scantlebury, the indie-pop project has blossomed over the years thanks to Scantlebury’s tact for melodic mastery and addictive structures. It’s perhaps their relatable lyrical themes around love and all the anxiety that comes with that that makes them so damn catchy but it’s also their knack for presenting such subjects with their tongue firmly pressed to their cheek. Case in point is their brilliant video for new single “Weird Cool”.

Journeying through three minutes of perfected woozy guitars and compelling, urgent vocals, “Weird Cool” explores those moments where we wonder if the love we’re about to dive into will be worth all of the anticipated hurt that’s yet to come. Scantlebury kicks off with a breathy, apprehensive confession that forms the central theme of the track’s delivery – nervous and skeptical but desperate for reassurance.

The video, created and directed by Eleanor Crewes and shot by Louis Scantlebury is an irreverent, hilarious dive into the song’s themes. It’s a visual where Scantlebury makes fun of her anxieties by bringing them to the forefront in a mocking, cheeky tone that creates her own kind of reassurance. It urges us to believe that when it comes to love and its uncertainties, things will (usually) turn out just fine. Watch it below.
