Surrey based Annabel Allum is the kind of artist content to build her fanbase patiently, organically. There’s no air of desperation in the music she makes, she’s not trying to fit in with any trend… if anything Allum has created a sound defiantly honest. There’s a dark and rich tapestry to be found in debut single Tricks, which twists and turns in compelling fashion.
Beginning menacingly in a shadowy chamber of noise, before bursting emphatically into life… it’s hard not to make comparisons to Stories From The City era PJ Harvey. With her lovelorn vocals, able to show both vulnerability and strength… Allum’s songcraft instinctively seems to understand all the right moments to break free.
