Oh, Holy Now, you know how to break our hearts.
“Pearl”, the wonderful second cut from upcoming debut album Think I Need The Light overflows with all the life-affirming energy we have come to associate with these Swedes. While the crushing blows of their downbeat lyrics and earnest guitars is sweetened by Julia Olander’s unassuming, breezy vocals, it hurts all the same: “Will you keep me from the dark, I think I need the light / Your heart is like a pearl, I know it shines so bright”
Holy Now are one of those bands who posses a magical spirit and project an easiness about their art that is captivating on first listen. With “Pearl” and previous release “Feel It All” it is clear they haven’t taken early acclaim for granted, or settled comfortably into a typical emo-indie-pop space. The new album promises a whole host of great sad tunes – recognisably poignant as only Holy Now can be – but surely, this time, destined to reach many more lost souls than before.
