Burned out like some restless confession of solitude in the heat of the summer, the new track from Gabriella Cohen is a swampy, fidgety piece of music, all simmering sentiments shaped by Cohen’s torch-like, sultry drawl of a voice, and the similarly distressed musical backing – and it makes for a wired but wonderfully compelling journey.
The track is taken from Cohen’s newly announced debut album, Full Closure and No Details, which has been announced for a March release via the always-worthy hands of the Captured Tracks label. The kind of weighty pop sprawl that can sit like a blanket over your day, the new track is gnarly, but palpably engaging track: “Darling you’re my summer love, I know that I am good enough, please don’t ever let me down…again,” Cohen sings, that pause before the final-word caveat hinting at the darker sentiments that hang like a shadow behind the whole thing; unsettled and impossible to define.
The full record will arrive on March 3rd – check out the video for “Downtown” below.
