First Watch:

Strange Relations

by tom johnson

What felt like a gleaming document of summer upon its release earlier this year finds new, alluring mannerisms with a brand new video for Strange Relations’ “Ceremonies” – and we’re very pleased to share it with you today. Lifted from the band’s Going Out, which was released via the ever-expansive Tiny Engines label, the track is a brilliant slice of dusty indie-pop that simmers with brooding intensity, arming itself with a chorus that seemingly swims around your head for days and days after first encountering it.

Now armed with an equally compelling video, the new film matches that aforementioned sense of brooding, taking place in a Buenos Arires night that positively swarms with a nightly energy that is captivating throughout. Check out what Casey Sowa had to say about the video below and then cast your eyes over the final product, which is something very, very good indeed.

“Ian Parton of The Go! Team invited me to contribute vocals to one of his tracks on their most recent album (The Scene Between). Lucila Mariani had made a DIY video for the track I stumbled across online and I was immediately drawn to her work. I thought it was super cool to do the overseas collab with The Go! Team and so I reached out to Lucila. She wrangled a bunch of gals practically overnight and shot the video around Buenos Aires. It was all very serendipitous and felt very full-circle to be able to collaborate with Lucila, and it was extra cool to get to work with a young woman coming up in her field the same way we are.”
