First Listen:

Sound Of Ceres

words by tom johnson

When we label something as a supergroup we tend to think of bold, often outlandish music to match, as if you couldn’t fit more than a couple of music personalities in to a project without the whole thing simply erupting with ideas. Sound of Ceres is both that and defiantly not that, led by Karen and Ryan Hover of Candy Claws’, and also featuring The Drums’ Jacob Graham, Apples In Stereo’s Ben Phelan, and guitarist Derrick Bozich, Sound Of Ceres undoubtedly bring a whole host of various thought patterns and processes in to their second record (one inspired by German novel The Magic Mountain) but handle the whole with such measured elegance that all other information simply ceases to be while you’re lost inside the world they’ve created.

Following on from lead track Gemini Scenic, we’re very pleased to share a new track and video today, and ‘Humaniora‘ is every bit as engaging as we’ve come to expect, unraveling with gentle splendour as the track’s three-and-a-half minutes gently wrap themselves around the listener, all weightless vocals and beautifully detailed musicianship.

Taken from brand new album The Twin – produced in Iceland by Alex Somers (Sigur Rós, Julianna Barwick) and released on October 6th via Joyful Noise Recordings – the new track is lent even greater credence with the associated video, a striking set of visuals carefully sculpted to fit in to the narrative that plays out across the whole record. “Sound of Ceres makes music about the awe of finding hidden lands within our own,” Director Chris Osborn says of his striking new work, “and that’s what I tried to capture here.”

Mesmerising from start-to-finish, the new video adds even further captivating weight to the forthcoming new LP – and you can check it out below right away.
