Currently journeying around the UK with Foxing and Fog Lake, Reykjavik’s Oyama today unveil brooding, beautiful new track in “Handsome Devil”, a five-minute jam, full of time and space, that might well act as one last wintry soundtrack if the weather holds for long enough.
With subtle hints of Mew’s swelling gaze, and a somewhat dizzying meeting of instrumentation and voice, the new track is indicative of Oyama’s craft, the subtle beginnings giving way to moments of dramatic splendour that seem to leap out of the speakers and soar up and out in to the world. “It’s a song about finding yourself in an environment that is beyond your grasp of understanding,” Úlfur Einarsson says. “Trying to make sense of it and coming to terms with your existence within the space you occupy.”
An impressively stirring moment of escape, you can stream the new track below right now, and catch Oyama at any of the following dates:
14th March – Manchester, Deaf Institute
15th March – Leeds, Brudenll
16th March – London, Scala
17th March – Leicester, Firebug
