“Craving Art Droplets”
words by tom johnson
A cavernous pop production, “Carving Art Droplets” is the striking new track from Kalbells, and lifted from the forthcoming debut album, released in July via the ever-compelling NNA Tapes label, home to the likes of Guerilla Toss and Oneohtrix Point Never.
The solo moniker of Kalmia Traver, more commonly known for her work in Brooklyn’s dance-pop band Rubblebucket, Kalbell’s debut record is billed as “a colorful world filled with imagination, wonder, honesty, light, and no shortage of gorgeous melody and harmony” and the lead track, which is premiering below from today, certainly plays in to such sentiments with graceful and compelling ease.
Working alongside producer, and fellow NNA Tapes artist, Ryan Power the track is a brooding delight, a colourful pop composition that drifts in and out of focus, plummeting in to the dark in moment before shifting in to far lighter climes as Traver’s sumptuous vocal takes centre-stage. Balanced gracefully between a gleaming invitation and the more experimental tributaries that quietly flow from it, the track is a beautiful introduction and you can stream it below right now.
