Streaming below from today, “Angel Of Mine” is the first track to be taken from Justus Proffit’s new Ups/Downs EP, which is released next month via Smoking Room Records, home to, among others, Tony Molina. Where Molina’s work deals in lightning-bolt moments of ferocity, “Angel Of Mine” is the polar opposite of such things, a withdrawn, laborious unrolling of dreamlike sentiments.
With striking similarities to Elliott Smith, in both objective and subjective terms, the new track makes for a beautiful introduction to the new record. Billed as a record that “furthers in his characteristic reflection, while attempting to create a newer, more minimal sound”, ‘Angel Of Mine’ certainly delivers on such sentiments, the quiet, brooding nature of the track heightened by the subtle and unwavering quietness that wraps itself around the track like a fog that’s set to settle for days.
The full EP is released on March 15th; check out the new track below.
