Launched last November with the brilliantly snarling “Wasted On The Senate” floor, Emperor X’s ‘Oversleepers International’ was immediately earmarked as one of the definitive releases for the first half of 2017; and so it’s proven to be with both the aforementioned track and it’s follow-up preceding the full release of the LP, via Tiny Engines in May, with boundless energy amid the revelry.
Fleshed out further today with the rugged, eminently charming new track “Schopenhauer in Berlin”, the record looks likely to be a keystone in Chad Matheny’s career (Oversleepers is his eighth studio album), a vigorous new chapter that solidify’s his cult status…and then some.
Driven by a wild sense of wholesomeness “Schopenhauer in Berlin” is a buoyant but always unsteady unraveling, the little flashes of guitar, and the DIY percussive strokes, wrapping themselves around Matheny’s ever frayed vocal in the most merry of dances; the head-rush of drunkenness before the consequences finally catch-up.
Another brilliant slice of indie-pop, in all of its heartening ungraceful style, you can check out the track below and pre-order the new record right here.
