‘Separate Life‘, the lead-track from Geranium’s new EP, is a compelling beast. Ripping through its near five-minute ride, it presents a kaleidoscope of colours, melding soothing dream-pop-like vocals, off-kilter production tics, and even a scorched guitar-led outro that leads down another rabbit-hole discovery. Despite the instability, it also feels resoundingly warm, like the disorder has all been meticulously planned.
The musical project of Allison Goldfarb, the new EP is a short but eminently endearing snapshot, veering between something both charming and full of melancholy. Written during a time of upheaval, when Allison was moving from Minneapolis to L.A, you can feel that weight of purpose all over these songs. It’s there in the aforementioned track but it’s prevalent elsewhere too; on the faded glow of ‘Where The Light Goes; in the drawn-out outro of the wonderful ‘Sister’.
“They’re songs about the hope and excitement of change and the loss of leaving something you love behind,” Allison says of the EP. “Separate Life was recorded in LA and the rest were recorded with Jordan on a magical return to Minneapolis summer, in between night swims and midnight motorcycle rides.”
Full of life, of the weight and wonder of it all, the Geranium EP is another gem of a release from the Forged Artifacts label – and we’re very pleased to present all three songs from it here today ahead of its full release this Friday. Stream it to your heart’s content below right now.
