If the opening, and title, track from Brenda’s Friend’s forthcoming EP had your fully prepared for a raucous bout of scuzzed up guitars and gnarly vocal crys, then new track ‘Pas De Deux’ turns that whole projection on its head, delivering something unexpectedly subtle; an almost weightless unraveling that casts the Bloomington pair in a different light entirely.
Mainstays of their local scene, Amy Oelsner and Erin Tobey came together over an appreciation of each other’s work, and this new track is perhaps the maturation of such exploits, finding a quiet space in the day to work it’s restrained sense of magic. Led by a lilting, repeated guitar line, the track quietly comes alive in the grip of Oelsner’s ever-compelling voice that weaves an eminently pretty pattern throughout the track’s effortless three-and-a-half minutes.
The full EP, House Down, is released on May 27th via Winspear Records – stream ‘Pas De Deux’ below right now.
