The first track to be taken from Pierre Kwenders’ forthcoming new LP – released later this year and produced by Tendai Maraire/Fly Guy Dai of Shabazz Palaces – “Woods Of Solitude” finds the Montreal-via-Congo songwriter at his endearing best, the new track presenting a patchwork of genres and influences as the it positively glides through its vitally compelling four-minutes of meticulous production and Kwenders’ diverging vocal.
Dedicated to his Aunt Shimba Kankwende, who recently passed away due to cancer (“Like a lot of Congolese women, she held it down for our family and her strength always inspired me to strive for excellence“), the new video, which is streaming below from today, is beautifully shot in black-and-white and lends even extra gravitas to the striking new composition.
Pertinently informed by his Congolese roots, and beautifully brought to life by the suitably exquisite production that leads the track down all manner of paths, “Woods Of Solitude” is a brilliant next-step in Wenders development – check it out below right now.
