words by tom johnson
See Through Dresses make the kind of songs that seem to pause time itself. From the opening crunch of new track “Lucy’s Arm”, which is premiering below here from today, you’re embroiled in their world, the cacophonous crash of the instrumentation that floods everything around it, and the hearty melodrama, carved out from lyrics and a voice that feel compelling earnest, wrapping the listener up so effectively that everything else ceases to be.
Following on from previous track “Pretty Police”, which was released alongside news of the band’s brand new LP, Horse of the Other World, which is released via Tiny Engines next month (July 14th), “Lucy’s Arm” makes good on the promise that the new record is See Through Dresses’ “dreamy opus”, still manage to shimmer and compel even in its heaviest instrumental excursions. This, for the most part, is thanks to the vocal; a ghostly shadow that broods during the verses and then leaps in to life for the track’s monumental chorus; a sonic explosion of guts and glory that hits like a hammer.
Instant, urgent, and bursting at the seams with sentimental angst, “Lucy’s Arm” is a brilliant next-step and you can check it out below right now.
