What do you think of when you hear the term ‘husband and wife duo‘? For me it brings to mind safe, structured and probably saccharine indie-pop or at least something along those lines. In short, it’s not a term that initially exudes excitement.
Step forward then Brooklyn ‘husband and wife duo’ Ekra. We don’t know too much about them at this point other than the fact that they have a debut record coming out next week and that the three songs on their Soundcloud page are all completely stunning in their own heady and experimental way. Anything but ‘safe‘ then.
Drifting between layers of hazy vocals, washed-out guitars and driving percussion each song clocks in at over ten-minutes, but not one moment seems out of place, forced, or rushed in the slightest. That the three songs have less than 200 plays between them is something of tragedy in itself, however we very much doubt that it will stay that way for much longer.
Check out the opening track Tributary below, and if you’re lucky enough to be in New York next week then you can catch them play a release show on February 10th at The Acheron, in Brooklyn.
